Warm Glow

Autumn, food, chilli

Autumn reminds me of so many different places. It was one of the main things I missed about England when we lived in Texas (after I first moved to the US), and something that I enjoyed the most about when we lived in Germany. I love the cooler air, being able to use the oven again to cook delicious food without breaking a sweat. Autumn colours are my favourite and my body is just built for the clothes of this season. That’s without even mentioning how much I enjoy Halloween…

When we lived in Germany, my favourite thing to do in the Autumn was to take long walks and to go exploring in the beautiful mountains that surrounded the city. Despite being a much more urban city than Heidelberg, our neighbourhood in Chicago still has plenty of trees and places to explore. The foliage outside of our living room window has begun to turn from green to yellow, filling the room with a beautiful warm glow. I feel a little bit as though we have missed most of October this year with Mikey being sick. We’ve had to cancel a few different things that we usually do. We haven’t even been able to get out and buy our pumpkin yet, and we’re not sure at this point if we are even going to be able to go trick or treating on Halloween. If we aren’t able to go out, we’ll spend the evening camping inside watching spooky cartoons and answering the door to trick or treaters.

I cooked up a big pot of chili this weekend, hoping that the comfort, warmth, and spices would have some sort of a healing effect… even if only a placebo. Chili, blankets, a cuddly cat, and excellent reading material will surely cure us! The coughing appears to be slowing, a diagnosis of strep throat on top of what he’s already dealing with hasn’t helped. We’re still waking up in the night, Mikey wakes at around midnight and then can’t sleep again until about 3am. My husband took over the weekend so that I could recharge a little, then it’s my turn again for the rest of the week.

  1. You guys are a wonderful team. The chili sounds good.

Corky and I drove down to the Finger Lakes on Saturday. It was mostly cloudy but with enough sun breaking through to make for dramatic skies. I have a roll from the Yashica-D to develop this evening.

Give Miky and Dan each an extra hug.

    Blessings,
    Steve

Chili sounds wonderful. So sad for your family going through being sick. :(
