The Meditative Craft of Paper Snowflakes

Hot Chocolate

The snow outside has melted and frozen over anew, a cold wind rattles our old windows. Mikey has spent almost an entire day hard at work, cutting and colouring with his new crayons and craft materials. Recently he has loved to make little illustrated books for his friends and family; his vovó and vovô bought him some beautiful new supplies to use for making these little books.

I’ve had a craft of my own to complete alongside Mikey while he works on his illustrated books. Sitting in the warm cutting paper snowflakes, as I do every year, to hang in our windows.

I am so taken with this quiet, delicate work. We can all sit together, each completing our own little project. There’s hot chocolate to drink and perhaps a candy cane or two as well. The process has an almost meditative effect on me, the perfect remedy for the often hectic mindset of the holidays.

Paper Snowflake Tutorial December 2012

Making Paper Snowflakes

I’m going to be taking a little time between Christmas and the New Year to set in motion one of the projects I’ve been working on recently. I’ll be updating the layout over here and changing things up a little to tie in with that, I’ve been working on it for a few weeks now (and thinking about it for much much longer) so I’m excited to finally have the opportunity to get things going.

I hope that you have a wonderful holiday and a very happy new year. I’ll see you in 2014!
