Orange/Fiery [Nurture Photography]

Having spent the best part of this week nursing a head cold, it has seemed as though very little could break through that fuzzy, brain-wrapped-in-wool feeling that I’ve been walking around with. Mikey, now fully recovered from his own cold, was happy to return to school on Thursday. We walked together in the morning; sharing an umbrella as the rain splattered down onto the streets around us.

It wasn’t until I had begun walking back home that I noticed the autumn leaves on the sidewalk, seeming to glow right through the wet and the gloom.

Even on the most dreary mornings, the rain does little to dampen the fiery oranges, reds, and yellows of these autumnal streets. If anything, the light reflected from the raindrops makes the leaves appear to glow more brightly. The overcast skies seem to bring out the richest colours.

    • Yes! It’s been pretty cold here the past few days though… and we’re due more rain today. Those bright days I’m longing for don’t seem to be arriving!

  1. These are delicious. Moody, and so expressive of this time of year! I’ve yet to get out to shoot wet leave…it’s been a timing thing, with rain coming during my work day or during the night. You’ve inspired me to pay close attention and not miss my chance! Also, I used to walk the kids to school everyday – it is – by far – one of the things we all cherish about their childhood!

    • Thanks Adrienne, I love walking him to school every day (even on those cold, wet days) and picking him up again… it gives us a chance to chat 🙂

  2. Beautiful captures of a rainy autumn day – the feeling of hearing raindrops falling, and the fresh scent of the wet forest! Happy to hear that your son is well again – the season for colds is about to start here as well. I’ve started to wear the woolen socks mom has knitted … The fall is here 🙂
