City Wildlife

Four rabbits raced ahead of us, along the edge of the sidewalk, single file. They pulled out to the center one by one, to take the corner without slowing, and disappeared through a hole in the fence.

Mikey pressed his face against the wood, his eye level with a hole in the fence, looking through to the empty lot on the other side. He stood there for a while watching the rabbits chase one another back and forth through the tall grass, giggling to himself as they occasionally lept wildly into the air.

Our neighbourhood has been filled with rabbits this year, from my second floor porch I can see them getting into my neighbour’s vegetable garden. I spotted several on an early morning walk last weekend as they darted between bushes and flowering plants.
