Hungry Caterpillar

We finally finished the rearranging of the apartment last weekend, which meant that Mikey’s toys and play area now have a new home. The new, reorganized space gives him a lot more room to play and opens up his little craft table so that he can use it more easily. The table itself used to be in our living room, right below where the water came in the ceiling. We thought that we might have to throw it out after it got wet, but I took it all apart and cleaned it thoroughly which meant that it could be rescued.

To celebrate being able to use his little table again, Mikey has been doing quite a lot of activities there. He has been spending time drawing, stamping and cutting out old magazines. I had been saving an old egg carton for him to use, for some kind of Spring related craft. On Monday morning he found it in the kitchen and told me that it looked like a caterpillar.

We pulled out the paint, and a dish to mix the colours. Realising we didn’t have any green paint, Mikey carefully mixed together some blue and yellow paint for his caterpillar’s body.

He wanted to use the book The Very Hungry Caterpillar for reference, so we pulled it from the bookshelf and set it beside the table for him to look at as he painted.

Some coloured paper for eyes and black pipe cleaners for antennae, then we were done. Mikey didn’t want to wait for it to dry to play with it and managed to spread coloured paint around the apartment. When I took him to pre-school later that afternoon I noticed that he had even somehow managed to get green paint on his coat.

  1. OMG! This is too adorable! You have yourself a creative one there. This would have been perfect for my son’s first birthday party! We actually read the Hungry Caterpillar. I can’t remember what the theme was but we had dirt cups for dessert too. Brilliant. Love it!
