The snow had all but melted by the end of the week, leaving us with only ice puddles and the odd pile of dirty frozen snow out on the grass where someone had built a snowman and it hadn’t melted entirely. We were treated with a fresh layer of snow on Thursday night, waking up this morning to cold air and a covering of white over every outdoor surface. Some of the snow even managing to make its way onto our outdoor porch on the second floor.
Last weekend I spent an early morning at the Lake. Cradling a mug of hot coffee, watching the geese swim on the partially frozen harbour under vivid blue skies and walking along the frozen sand of the beach.
The freezing wind was biting at our gloved fingers and the cold made its way through our many layers of clothing. It blew, razor-edged, cutting each breath from our lips, catching our mumbled curses and carrying them away with it over the water and ice.
The lake pushed layers of ice up against the shore, building them up into piles mixed with pebbles and shells along its edge. Clouds skittered across the blue sky behind.
