Ice Skating

Last week while I was walking around downtown Chicago, I walked up through Millennium Park, past the Cloud Gate sculpture and leaned over the balcony to watch the ice skaters below.

The ice skaters were lit by bright lamps around the rink leaving a pattern of multiple shadows on the ice. The Cloud Gate sculpture opposite the ice skating rink reflected the glow of the surrounding skyscrapers. It was a beautifully clear night, visitors and residents were watching one another skate and taking photos of their reflections.

  1. Rebecca, Your black and white photography is amazing. Really love this series! Thanks so much for the encouraging words about my surgery. Sorry you ended up with glasses. :/ That just doesn’t seem fair.

    • Thanks Alicia! And don’t worry about me with my glasses! lol. My eyesight is very very bad but the surgery I did have improved it a lot so I can buy regular glasses now instead of these crazy expensive ones I used to have to get! And I don’t see double anymore since the surgery, which is always good, lol!

  2. The photos are beautiful. The reflection is really neat.

I have to admit, I felt really guilty that one of the first things I noticed was that a bunch of people look like they are trying really had not to fall down in that first picture. I think I am too used to seeing those old movies with Cary Grant in those scenes in which everyone (except the woman falling into his arms) looks like they were born on the ice. 😉

    • Thank you!

I have to admit, I would be one of those people trying very hard not to fall down! In the last photo it looks like someone in the middle of the photo has fallen down. The people who are good at it make it look so easy!

  3. I love these black & whites Rebecca!! I always love your photos of Chicago. We liked the city so much!! We were there in the summer, so I am trying to figure out where in Millenium Park the skating rink is. Is it close to the Crown Fountains?

  4. Le sigh! I’ve only been to chicago once and it was only to drive through. I so want to be there- in that park- skating in circles. These pictures are timeless, Rebecca.
