Half of the fun of Halloween has been the preparation beforehand. This is the part that I enjoy the most, the pumpkin carving and making of decorations. We have some lovely purple spider monsters that Mikey made, sitting outside on their web. He has also been making decorations at school too.
Last weekend we went grocery shopping and walked him with a pumpkin, to carve the next day. Mikey gutted the pumpkin for me and helped me draw the face, he requested that the pumpkin have naughty eyes and scary teeth.
One of the things we really love about our neighbourhood is how friendly it is. Mikey had been counting down the days until Halloween, excited to be able to wear his batman costume to school. But when the day came, and he got the costume on he was a little nervous to wear it outside.
On our way to school, we walked to the end of our street and a woman walking past said to him, “Hi Batman!” and he grinned from ear to ear, excited again to be wearing his costume. The workmen who are working on the Metra bridge that we walk under on our way to school said “Woah! It’s Batman!” when Mikey walked past. Several other people stopped and spoke to him on the short walk to school and by the time we arrived at school he was very excited again to be wearing his costume.
After school was over, we walked along to our local park where there was a “Halloween Park”. Mikey played some fun games and brought home candy (of course). We spent the evening sipping hot chocolate and watching kids Halloween movies.
