It dawned on me towards the end of August that I hadn’t read a single book all month. I’ve felt the need for the ritual – a cup of tea, a cozy chair. But each time I have thought I might like to read something, it had been later in the evening after the library had closed and I hadn’t had the time to visit that day. None of the books on my shelves interested me, I find it difficult sometimes to read something for the second time.
So the only printed word I have read during the last days of August was my neighbour’s copy of the September issue of Vanity Fair.
That is not to say that I don’t have reading plans for the month of September. My birthday is later this week, I ordered two books as an indulgence – my birthday gift to myself. The first is the fourth book in the Game of Thrones series, I still want to keep up with that series and have been enjoying it immensely. The second book I ordered was Lens on Life: Documenting your World Through Photography by Stephanie Calabrese Roberts. I’m very much looking forward to the arrival of both books.
We’ve been busy too, making sure that everything is all in order for Mikey to begin Preschool this week. We have been making as much as we can of these last humid days of summer, even if that has involved much lounging in front of electric fans with brightly coloured popsicles in hand.
We met with Mikey’s new Preschool teacher last week, and took a look at the room he will be in. He is very excited to start and is so looking forward to making lots of new friends.
Despite the lack of tangible paper books in my life last month, I have been reading a few things online here and there.
