First Day of Preschool
Last week was spent getting ready for Mikey’s first day of half day Preschool on Wednesday. He was so exited to go, make new friends and play.
I told myself I wouldn’t get emotional about it, but that was difficult. My baby boy is now a preschooler. Born weighing in at 4lbs 6oz, he is now taller than most of the other kids in his class. He is friendly, curious, outgoing, and so ready to begin school.
He wasn’t particularly impressed at having to wait and take some photos before he headed out to his first day. He didn’t want to stand still, he wanted to go to school right away. But I took a few photos of him outside of our apartment building before we left.
It was strange coming home without him. He has been in classes by himself before (both art classes last year and dance classes earlier this year) but those have always been short enough that I would just sit in a nearby coffee shop and read while I waited for him to finish. The apartment was quiet and I busied myself with cleaning until it was time to go and pick him up again. I’m sure I’ll get used to those few hours every afternoon, but for now they are strange.
Sadly, this week, he wont be able to return to school until the Chicago teacher’s strike is over. He has been asking when he gets to go back to school. We just have to wait and see.
