Indoor Play

I realised on Wednesday morning, when wondering about my recent lack of inspiration, that I really haven’t taken any photos of my sweet boy lately. It may have a little to do with the weather, we haven’t been having very many fun adventures outside lately, and I have to admit also a little to do with the fact that he seems to be getting steadily less and less cooperative over the past couple of months. Not just with having his photo taken, but in general. It’s hard to know whether it’s his age, if he’s getting a little stir crazy from this mostly indoor time over the winter, or if he misses his daddy now that my husband is away more for school and his internship… perhaps a little mixture of all three. Mikey was perfectly fine, though, to have me take some photos of his Lego constructions (a “reeeaally biiig!” bus) and his colour matching game as we played later that morning.

The weather in Chicago was also unusually glorious on Wednesday and we managed to meet up with Sara of Mother’s Hideaway at a nearby park for a little while before I had to whisk Mikey back home for his afternoon art class. Sara is lovely, and it was great to finally meet her!

We’ve had another fairly full week, perhaps this weekend we can take a minute to relax. Mikey’s dance classes begin next week on Tuesday and we’re both pretty excited about that. His tap shoes arrived in the mail a few days ago and he loves them!

I hope you all have a great weekend.

  1. legos have changed our lives! the weather has been so yucky, save a couple abnormally warm days, that we finally caved and bought legos. between practicing ABCs, writing letters, and rolling around like maniacs, the legos have definitely made our indoor time a LOT more manageable.

where did you get his matching cards??

    • We’ve still got the Duplo kind of Legos, from when he was smaller. Thinking it might be soon to upgrade to the regular sized ones though!

His matching card game was bought at a local store, just at the end of our street. But they’re made by a company called Peaceable Kingdom Looking at the website they have lots of other sweet games. Mikey loves these cards 🙂

  2. Awesome group of photos…how sweet is your little guy?!?! I’m inspired now to take some photos of my little monkeys next time they’re playing together!! Happy Monday!

  3. these are so super sweet! my boy has that shirt too. 🙂 looks like you all had a super fun time. i find it really hard to take pics when it’s cold and dreary too. these are great!

  4. I love your black and white conversions… it captures the window light so well. I especially love how it makes your son’s hair glow. Everyday photos of your sweet boy playing are exactly what inspires everyone who views them… to pick up their cameras and capture a slice of their everyday. These are beautiful!

  5. Oh I love this series! Love your processing in both the colour and b&w! I feel your pain – we had a taste of spring but now it seems to be winter again – let’s hope we can all get back outside again soon!

  6. I was going to mention how sweet it was that Mikey was having a little conversation with Mario, but then I noticed that he was smashing poor Mario into the ground in the other shot. Too funny! Looks like he has lots to keep him busy around the house. Hope things get a little better with Mikey! I know he must really miss his daddy, as do you. 🙂

  7. It’s these precise moments of solo play in one’s room you’ll look back on with deep breaths, closed eyes and her the sounds of it all. This series of photos capture so much. As the mama to three little girls, it is wonderful to peek in on boy’s play. xoxo
