Calm [Poetic Winter, A Photography Challenge]

I’d written a few things to begin with, on the subject of calm, and then subsequently deleted them. Because honestly? I feel a little like I’ve been searching, this week, for just a little spot of calm… anything really. Just one minute even. But it’s been much busier than usual and I feel like I’ve barely had a second to myself. That’s not really the kind of introduction I wanted to make for Calm this week, but perhaps I can look forward a little to having some down time next week? I think that maybe I need to keep the above quote in mind a little more in the future, and I certainly need to search out out a beach where I can listen to the calm waves lapping gently at the shore.

I hope you’ve all managed to find a little calm this week, I can’t wait to see all of your photos for our final prompt! I’ve had such an awesome time pouring over your photos, commenting and pinning for each of the prompts for the duration of the challenge!

  1. I almost skipped this week for that same reason. On Tuesday, I was drinking a cup of coffee out of my favorite cup and it dawned on me…It’s not about everything appearing calm or even being’s about finding my calm in the midst of the noise and craziness. So, I took a photo of my cup with my chin…lol (oh, the things I have learned to do with no hands since becoming a

So, my post is honest and so are my photos. They photo of my messy house is embarrassing but real……

    • Thank you so much.

That’s such a wonderful quote and I’m absolutely going to keep it in mind this week while I take some time get get life back in order (oh my house is a mess from last week!).

  2. Isn’t it funny that we all seem to have had a crazy busy week- anything but calm?… perhaps “calm” wasn’t the most ideal choice for the finale in retrospect? lol. But I love what barefootmama said. It’s exactly how I was feeling. “Finding calm in the midst of the noise.” And your photos are beautiful as always!

    • Thanks Alicia! And yeah, I thought I was going to chill out and get myself in the frame of mind for ‘calm’ but it so didn’t happen! Hopefully this week?

  3. I found my calm on a winter beach, too. The light is magnificent and the tones are so soft. Loved these!

    • Thank you! I love beaches in the winter, when they’re empty like this. In the summer the Chicago beaches get crazy busy!

  4. What a perfect way to start the weekend looking for calm after a busy work week. Love your photos.

    • Thank you, and me too! Except it was much too cold to take off my shoes for that! What I wouldn’t give for a nice warm beach at the moment though!

  5. Love your photos for calm! Sand is very calming. I love the quote on your second pic, inspirational!

  6. wow, Rebecca!! That quote is truly amazing and so very true!!! I love that…and have to pin that one! And like you, the beach is where I can truly find my calm! Our summer trip to the shore cannot come soon enough! Love your photos of the beach there of Lake Michigan!! Truly a lovely spot. Thank you again for hosting this wonderful challenge. It pushed me out of my comfort zone and stretched my creativity and for that I am grateful! Thanks for all the freebies, tips and handwork you all have put into this for us once again!!

    • Thank you Tish, I’m so so glad you enjoyed the challenge. Even as hosts we find that the prompts push us out of our comfort zones a lot too… which is great!

Also, I just loved sitting on that beach listening to the sound of the water, despite how cold it was!

  7. Yeah, last week was not very calm for me either…mostly inner angst. But these photos are lovely! Photography and beauty gives me a whole new way to find peace!
