Brown [Shades of Autumn Photo Challenge]

As the brighter shades of Autumn begin to fade away we’re left with very little. Dead leaves blowing along sidewalks by the ever-colder wind, bare branches reaching out toward grey skies, and exposed soil underfoot. Before winter draws closer and the glitter of frost and snow begins to dust every surface, there’s that time where everything is brown.
Brown seems so miserable, a sign that the beautiful natural scenery of the Spring and Summer is over and done. But brown is full of promise, it hides secrets within those bare branches, and the tiny seeds buried under muddy earth just waiting out the cold winter. Brown is warmth from a real wood fire, it’s a much needed cup of coffee and an old leather bound book. It is the pleasure of a slice of chocolate cake straight from the cooling rack and, at least in the case of our little family, it is running your hands through a loved one’s hair.
But mud, can’t forget mud! We’ve had so much rain lately, and of course that means plenty of mud. Little droplets hanging from tree branches and falling, running in little rivers to the earth. I must’ve looked quite strange taking these photos in the rain. My camera wrapped in plastic, occasionally attempting to balance an umbrella over myself while taking the shot. But shooting in the rain is an entirely different animal and I enjoyed it, despite coming home almost entirely soaked through from crouching in puddles and walking mud through my own kitchen.
I’m so looking forward to seeing what you came up with for this week’s colour. Yesterday, Kristi, Alicia and I shared a few of our favourites from last week’s colour, purple. Don’t forget to congratulate these ladies on their beautiful work!

I’m teaming up with the lovely and talented Kristi of Live and Love Out Loud and Alicia of Project Alicia for the Shades of Autumn Photo Challenge – a colorfully inspiring autumn photography challenge aimed at capturing the beautiful shades of autumn.
Just a few details:
All are welcome regardless of experience, time commitment and whether or not you’re experiencing fall at the moment.
Simply share your favorite images inspired by the autumn shade of the week each Friday and grab our button while you’re at it.

We’ll select our favorite photos of the week and share them with you at Bumbles & Light, Project Alicia and Live and Love Out Loud the following Thursday. Next week’s theme will be brown. For a complete list of upcoming themes, head on over to the Shades of Autumn Photo Challenge page.
a British expat living in Chicago with my husband and our 4 year old son. I love to take

brown is FABULOUS I think, especially after this week, but try telling my 4yo that when we’re colouring in! When I looked through my iphotos of the past couple of weeks, I realised that I’m spoilt for choice where brown is concerned, despite none of it being technically autumnal! Such fun, thanks again for hosting! x
