Blue Skies

On Tuesday afternoon we took a trip into the city to see the Nikola Tesla exhibit at Navy Pier. The exhibit itself was smaller than I’d expected, but the demonstration of different Tesla machines were fun and the photographs they had on display of some of his experiments were fabulous.
Of course while there, it would be silly to not enjoy the rest of the pier. Mikey got himself very over-excited about all of the boats that we saw and had plenty of fun running around, chasing birds and then finally grabbing some food before we made the train journey home. He loves the train, so even the journeys to and from the city are fun for him.
Whereas with more professional photographs, you generally want to avoid dappled and harsh sunlight like in these photos, sometimes it can’t be helped and you have to just take the photograph anyway when they’re just for personal use. One day I’d love to take a model to the pier in the evening light to take some photographs for fun, but I suppose I’d have to find some willing models first!

I love the one of the ferris wheel. Living in Florida I am constantly competing with the harsh sun. I can’t wait until fall when the sun begins to set a little earlier again.

Thank you! Yes it will be nice when we’re not having to compete with the bright sun so much!
Looks like you had a beautiful day at the pier…and I’m liking the dappled light – at least when you use it.

Sometimes, you just have to break a few photography rules. In fact, you said it yourself in one of your “how to” posts.
Wonderful collection, Rebecca. I’ve yet to see a photo you’ve taken that I don’t like.
