Hottest Days

We spent some of the hottest days this past week staying out in the suburbs with my In-Laws, where we could splashing around in the water and cool off some instead of sweltering in our little city apartment. Mikey was unsure of the sprinkler at first, he didn’t really want to get wet until he realised how much fun it was. Then of course he didn’t want to stop playing, even when it was time for dinner.

We’re going to be doing much of the same this weekend as the rest of the week. Hiding out from the heatwave, hoping for rain and finding creative ways to cool off. A few more trips to the air conditioned library may be in order, as if the lure of books wasn’t enough to get me to go in the first place!

Glad you guys are finding a way to cool off. It’s so hot out there!

  2. Love these shots…as usual. ;) My 2 year old screamed “SWIM!” when she saw your pics. Looks like someone wants to go swimming today! So did Mikey end up jumping in? Do you not have a/c in your apartment? Please tell me you do. :(
Thanks for joining Alicia and I again. We really enjoy looking at your shots each week. I’m excited to see what you come up with for next week’s theme, bubbles. Hope you have a nice, cool, relaxing weekend. :)

It doesn’t take much water for kids! Ours are happy to just have the waterhose running :-) Love the pics!

What great summer pics and a fabulous way to stay cool. I always love your photos and look forward to them. I’d love to know what camera you are using and what settings give such crisp results!

      Thanks Alicia,

I’m actually using a Nikon D3000, which is just an entry range DSLR… it’s pretty poor in low light but otherwise a decent enough camera for the price, I’ll get a better one some day I hope. I used the 50mm 1.4 lens for these, I have a pretty sharp copy which is great! The ISO for these was 100 and I generally keep the f/stop at around 3.2 on the 50mm (depending on what I’m shooting) because I think the results are usually sharper on my particular lens.

I’ve been editing in only Lightroom lately and always shoot in RAW format. I also have my camera set up so that I choose the focal point, rather than letting the camera search for me… that way I can easily toggle focal points if I need to.

I always marvel at the fascination that little ones have with water… especially when hoses are involved! ;) We’re experiencing extreme temps in New Jersey these days and I turned my 3 loose on their water table complete with buckets. Pretty hilarious sight! ;)
