A week of new things, the Spring leaves and flowers beginning to bloom and a new home for our little family. My husband and I went apartment hunting on Monday of last week and I’m very pleased to say that we found somewhere that will be perfect.
A beautiful, cozy one bedroom apartment in Lincoln Square, Chicago. Big windows that let the light flood in (and will be just lovely for growing all sorts of little plants) a small, vintage galley kitchen that will take some getting used to after being spoiled by the size of my kitchen in Germany. Hardwood floors, brightly coloured walls and a little outdoor deck. We looked at quite a few different places that day, but none of them spoke to us until we walked into this one towards the end of the afternoon.
We are looking forward to being able to settle in, to have our belongings arrive from Germany and set up in the new space. It will be nice to hang familiar photographs on new walls and to snuggle up on our old couch.
I’ve been spending time planning where our furniture will go and what colours to incorporate. Working out different ways to maximize the space that we will have and how different things will be stored. We’re not pack-rats as such, but we do have a habit of holding onto things that we think we will need later or could recycle, I think we will find as we unpack our boxes that we need to re-think the kind of things that we keep around.
Do you use Pinterest? I’ve been using it to collect different ideas for the new place, you can see them here – http://pinterest.com/satakieli/nesting/. If you use it, you can feel free to follow me and/or leave your own link in the comments so that I can follow you back. I could spend hours looking at all of the pretty things people pin on there 🙂
If you haven’t already “liked” Bumbles & Light on Facebook then you should, I’ve been sharing bits and pieces I’ve found and some extra photographs I’ve taken lately. I think sometimes it’s nicer to write a short update on there, especially when I don’t think that I have enough to write for a longer blog post.
I hope you all had a wonderful weekend, and that you’re having fun in the run up to Easter (if you celebrate it). Mikey and I have been doing various crafts, as you can see in the last photograph above, I also have a few things planned for us to bake together and a little Easter egg hunt next weekend. Are you going to be doing anything fun?
