The art of having fun

It’s Saturday morning, 9am. I didn’t go to sleep until around 4am but Mikey woke me promptly to come and play with him this morning. He’s playing with connect-4, making patterns with the coloured tokens and showing me when he’s finished. The hubby and I were up late last night because he didn’t get back from his gaming night with friends in the next town over until 11pm. We ended up talking for hours about parenting, schooling and the like over glasses of wine while Mikey slept soundly snuggled in the couch cushions near us. We have quite different opinions on that sort of thing so it’s always good for us to hash out our ideas now and then and come to some sort of compromise.

This weekend is scheduled up tight. I am going to the flea market at some point this morning with friends, the wife of one of my husband’s friends is bringing her baby to play with Mikey so we all get to coo over him. Later we’re going to be gardening and having a barbecue in the evening. Sunday my friend and I are finally going to be cutting up the wood to build our respective pieces of furniture that have been waiting in bare wood form for about a month now. I also have spring cleaning to do in the house, despite the fact that we’d all much rather be outside all day instead.

I really can’t get over how beautiful the weather is here at the moment. On Friday morning Mikey and I took a long walk, we picked wild lilac blossoms and named the different colours of the flowers that we saw. We played in the grass and watched earthworms crawl across the soil between the shoots pushing their way up for Spring. Mikey chased young blackbirds, shouting “Birdy! Birdy!” and learned to say “Morgen” (morning in German) to some of the people that we passed.

I hope that you all have a wonderful weekend.

  1. WOW!! You have some beautiful photography. You should stop by my daughters blog (http://engens.blogspot.com/) it seems to be something you share — photography and writing about your kids. Anyway, happy Saturday Sharefest from a fellow SITSA. dianeswords.wordpress.coom

    • Thank you so much! I took a quick look at your daughters website, her photos are gorgeous! It’s 5.30am here (no idea why I’m awake) so I’ll definitely take a more in depth look at a more reasonable hour!

I took a brief look at your blog too, I will definitely be back there too to have a bit of a read!

      Thank you again
      xx

    • Spring in this city is one of the most incredible things, I’ve honestly never seen anything else like it. Everything is brown brown brown throughout winter and then Spring hits and it’s like BAM! COLOUR! The mountains that are around the edges of the city are slowly starting to turn green too, watching that process is probably my favourite part!

We could do with a little rain here too, it’s been dry for a while now. I got sunburned yesterday, but I finished up planting my garden so my flowers could do with some rain right now!

  2. Hi, the path looks so inviting…

Your lilac is way ahead, here I am just looking at very tight buds. Enjoy the beautiful weather with your German speaking little man 😉

    Have a great Sunday. xxx
