I’m not particularly good at the housework part of being a stay at home mum. This weekend I’ve been putting together a new bench made from parts of an old coffee table, and fiddling with some paper sculptures. Two activities which make a whole lot of mess! Mikey has been painting a lot this weekend as the weather has been too dreary to play outside without getting wet. My husband has been tinkering around with guitars.
These collected activities and a lack of cleaning up after ourselves has left our open plan living/dining area looking like a crazed artists studio, with paint, pieces of wood, screws, paper pulp, chicken wire and glue covering the entirety of those two areas of the house. And with paper pulp soaking in the sink, I’m afraid to say that the bathroom hasn’t fared much better.
Now that my finished bench is just waiting to be waxed, I’ve moved it out into the stairwell to clear a little space. I’m going to have to set to work this morning to get everything cleaned up and the house looking more like, well, an actual house. I’ll take some photos of my bench to share with you after I’ve waxed it. I’m quite proud of myself, it’s the first proper piece of furniture I’ve ever built, if you exclude the pseudo kitchen cabinets I built out of old tables and trashed cabinet doors for a theatre stage design back when I was in school.
Also, for those of you that have been watching my ever changing blog design over here, I think I’m finally settled on one now. I loved the design of the previous layout but there wasn’t really enough room for the large images that I like to use in blog posts.
I hope you all had a wonderful weekend! After I’ve finished with this cleaning nonsense I’m going to be heading outside to grab some photos of the first few sprigs of blossom on the trees outside our kitchen window.
